Local elected Democrats are rallying around Marni Von Wilpert, who will be up against Republican Jim Desmond in November in the race to represent the 48th Congressional District.
Reps. Sara Jacobs, Mike Levin, Scott Peters, and Juan Vargas weighed in with a statement endorsing her.
“With the primary behind us, it is now time for all Democrats to come together to make sure we defeat Trump acolyte Jim Desmond in the 48th Congressional District,” said the statement.
“San Diego families need a representative who will fight the skyrocketing cost of living and assault on our democracy, not another Trump yes man. As the San Diego Democratic congressional delegation, we are proud to endorse Marni Von Wilpert in her fight to stop Jim Desmond and flip this seat blue.”
Desmond entered the race for the 48th District in March, switching his candidacy from the 49th on the day before the deadline, just as Rep. Darrell Issa announced his retirement, endorsing Desmond in the process.
“He understands this community, was born and raised here, and will make a terrific congressman,” Issa said at the time.
