Authorities have arrested multiple individuals in connection with criminal activity at a homeless encampment in East County.
At 2 p.m. Tuesday, a small fire ignited at an encampment near Willow Glen Drive in unincorporated El Cajon. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, and no injuries or property damage were reported, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Homeless Assistance Resource Team has conducted several outreach operations at this site over the past month, offering services and support. However, reports of unspecified ongoing criminal activity prompted further action, officials said.
On Wednesday, the team carried out an enforcement operation at the encampment, resulting in multiple arrests. Charges included drug-related offenses, outstanding misdemeanor warrants and identity theft.
The encampment has since been cleared and clean-up efforts are in progress.
To report suspicious or criminal activity, call the Sheriff’s Office at (858) 868-3200.
