Authorities are seeking the motorist who fled after driving an SUV that struck and killed an elderly man at an intersection in Spring Valley.
The vehicle hit the pedestrian, who was using a walker, at Jamacha Boulevard and Pointe Parkway shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Following the impact, the driver made a U-turn and drove off to the east, Officer Jasmine Lopez said.
The victim, 70, whose name has been withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.
Based on broken auto parts found at the site, investigators determined that the involved vehicle was a dark-colored Chevrolet Traverse. The model years would be between 2018 and 2024, according to the CHP.
The crash damaged the windshield and driver’s-side mirror of the SUV. Sparks were seen shooting out from beneath the vehicle as it traveled out of the area, Lopez said.
