Below is a quick summary of key races, with all ballots tallied in San Diego County, and 28 days remaining to complete the count across California. The final, unofficial county figures were released late Friday afternoon.
Since it’s a primary, the top two vote-getters will advance to the Nov. 3 general election.
Governor – Democrat Xavier Becerra with 28.1% of the vote will face Republican Steve Hilton with 24.7% in the general election. Click for statewide table.
Other State Offices – Incumbents Rob Bonta and Shirley Weber are set for re-election as Attorney General and Secretary of State, with tallies over 50%. Leading for Lieutenant Governor is Democrat Fiona Ma at 19.1% followed by Republican Gloria Romero at 17.9%. For Insurance Commissioner, Republican Jane Kim at 27.4% and Democrat Ben Allen with 19.4% will be in the runoff. And for Superintendent of Public Instruction, the the top two are Sonja Shaw with 22.7% and Richard Barrera at 20.3%. Click for all state office results.
Congress – In the contested 48th District, Republican Jim Desmond with 38.9% will face Democrat Marni von Wilpert with 20.8% in November. Click for full district results.
State Senate – In the contested 40th District, Democrat Mara Elliott has 47.9% to Republican Kristie Bruce-Lane’s 27.7%.
State Assembly – In the contested 74th District along the north coast into Orange County, incumbent Republican Laurie Davies leads Democratic challenger Sergio Farias by 52.3% to 47.7%. Click for full district results.
Judicial Offices – Jodi Cleesattle is leads Adam Noakes by 55.6% to 44.4%, and Tia Ramirez is ahead of Nicole D’Ambrogi by 50.5% to 39.0%.
County Supervisor – In District 5, Republican Rebecca Jones with 38.3% will face Democrat Kyle Krahel with 22.2% in November.
County Treasurer/Tax Collector – Appointed incumbent Larry Cohen leads with 47.4% to Shirley Nakawatase’s 33.7%.
San Diego City Council – In District 2, Richard Bailey leads with 34.8% of the vote, followed by Nicole Crosby at 33.7%.
In District 4, incumbent Henry Foster III leads challenger Martha Abraham by 11 votes with 40.8% of the vote to Abraham’s 40.7%. Foster had trailed in the earliest returns.
In District 6, incumbent Kent Lee is well ahead of challenger Mark Powell, at 58.8% to 41.2%.
And in District 8, Antonio Martinez leads with 28.8% with Gerardo Ramirez at 25.5%.
Measure A – The measure to tax second homes lost with 53.2% against to 46.8% in favor.
Chula Vista – Incumbent Mayor John McCann appears headed for re-election with 56.1% of the vote.
In City Council District 1, incumbent Carolina Chavez leads with 43.4% of the vote to Greg Martinez’ 23.9%.
And in District 2, it’s Jose Preciado at 48.6% followed by Angelica Martinez at 27.2%.
