The deaf driver who plowed through a crowd during a Zombie Walk event at last year’s Comic-Con, injuring a pedestrian, has been charged with felony reckless driving resulting in serious injuries, NBC San Diego reported.
The station identified the driver as Matthew O. Pocci Jr., 48. Prosecutors announced the charge in a letter Monday, which NBC San Diego obtained Wednesday.
The crash occurred about 5:30 p.m. July 26, when Pocci tried to drive away from the intersection of Island and Second avenues after waiting for as long as 10 minutes as a raucous group of people portraying roaming corpses passed by, according to San Diego police.

His car struck three or four people, including a 64-year-old woman who fell underneath it. She was most seriously injured, and at least one of the other victims sustained minor bruises.
Police reported that several people surrounded the car, punching and shattering the windshield. At the time, Pocci said he was scared and fearing for the safety of his family. Pocci later filed a claim against the San Diego Police Department claiming Zombie Walk: San Diego, the organizer of the event, did not have the proper permit.
Because of the accident and the publicity surrounding it, Zombie Walk: San Diego canceled its planned October 2014 event and has not hosted a Zombie Walk since.
Pocci will be arraigned March 9.
