Zombies ate brains (or a reasonable facsimile) and made girls giggle as they slogged down Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter late Saturday afternoon. The 8th annual parade of crude costumes and clever makeup lasted a half-hour, signaled by the squawks of a San Diego police motorcycle.
The best free show outside Comic-Con at the San Diego Convention Center featured a zombie cat, a zombie sweeping the street with an undead head and zombie families with zombie infants in strollers. Chihuahua zombies sniffed their way toward the Gaslamp Quarter finale, and thousands of tourists took pictures of the walking dead (and their dogs).
