The San Diego Police Department plans to set up a DUI checkpoint Friday night at an undisclosed location in within the city limits.

The checkpoint will be operating between 11 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday. Officers will be looking for signs of drunk or drugged driving and also checking for proper licensing.

Police regularly announce the checkpoints in advance because doing so can deter people from drinking and driving.

Over 10,000 are killed annually on American roads by drunk or drugged drivers, and San Diego Police report 2,381 DUI incidents over the past three years — 19 ending in fatalities
