San Diego Gas & Electric launched its “Power Your Drive for Fleets” program by facilitating the donation of two all-electric passenger vans and installing charging infrastructure to support San Diego-based nonprofit Outdoor Outreach.
The SDG&E “Power Your Drive for Fleets” initiative seeks to electrify 3,000 vehicles at over 300 sites throughout the region, the utility announced Friday.
“We’re excited to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles throughout San Diego, especially in underserved areas that experience the most air pollution,” said Jessica Packard, a spokeswoman for SDG&E.
With the addition of the two fully electric 2020 Ford Transit vans that were fabricated by Lightening eMotors, Outdoor Outreach is able to increase its program capacity while reducing its environmental impact, according to SDG&E.
Outdoor Outreach works to reach youth from San Diego’s vulnerable communities and eliminates barriers to accessing outdoor spaces in Southern California. The organization provides nearly 2,000 young people with 500 outdoor development programs each year, the utility said.
SDG&E partnered with Boston-based Citizens Energy, a nonprofit energy company founded by former Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II, to provide funds to enable Outdoor Outreach to transition their fleet to electric.
