The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System announced Tuesday that a contract agreement has been reached with drivers of MTS minibus and Access paratransit services.

The agency said its vendor Transdev had reached agreement with Teamsters Local 542 drivers, who voted to accept a new contract.

The union had been on strike since April 26 and the work stoppage continued after another Teamsters local covering drivers of conventional buses in the South Bay returned to work on June 18.

All scheduled minibus routes were anticipated to operate as normal on Wednesday, though officials cautioned there could be some missed trips over the next few days as the system recovers and operators report for duty.

The Access system is a separate on-call service for riders with disabilities. Officials said it may take Access staff a few days to cover all appointment requests.

MTS Board Chair Stephen Whitburn, who is also a San Diego city councilmember, thanked riders for their “patience and understanding” during the long strike.

“With the passing of this vote, MTS riders across our system can begin again relying on all MTS services starting tomorrow,” he said after the vote. “We will continue to evaluate the factors that led to the work stoppage to ensure that this type of service disruption is avoided in the future.”
