San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister reminded residents Thursday to pay the second installment of their property taxes by April 10 to avoid late fees.
Property owners can pay online at the treasurer-tax collector’s website, sdttc.com, and can avoid convenience fees when they pay with an e- check, according to McAllister.
Roughly 60 percent of property owners currently pay their property taxes through the office’s website while in-person payments continue to decline each year.
The county expects to collect nearly $6.5 billion in property taxes by the time the fiscal year ends June 30.
“So far, 42 percent of taxpayers have paid $1.3 billion in second installment payments,” McAllister said, “but all tax bills are due on April 10, and we don’t want anyone to have to pay a 10 percent penalty plus $10 fee for being even a minute late.”
The county will no longer accept drive-thru payments at the treasurer- tax collector’s main branch office downtown in an attempt to steer people toward paying online. Residents can also pay by phone by calling McAllister’s office at (855) 829-3773. The office will accept payments through 11:59 p.m. on April 10.
