Republican Rep. Darrell Issa joined congressional Democrats Friday in calling for a special prosecutor to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential election.
Issa, who led many investigations as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, told HBO’s Bill Maher in an interview that “you’re going to need to use the special prosecutor’s statute and office.” He said it would be inappropriate for someone connected to President Trump’s campaign to lead an investigation.
He described Russian president Vladimir Putin as a “bad guy” who has murdered his political enemies. “We need to investigate their activities and we need to do it because they are bad people,” he said.
Issa, who represents north coastal San Diego and south Orange counties, initially supported Sen. Marco Rubio but ultimately endorsed Trump.
