Rep. Darrell Issa‘s House committee on Friday issued a subpoena to President Obama’s chief of staff, seeking documents related to the White House political office and travel by the president earlier this year.
The documents concern travel by Obama to political events in Minnesota and Colorado, which included stops at fund-raisers, and the role of the White House Office of Political Strategy and Outreach.
Issa said in a letter that despite “constructive” dialogue, discussions with the White House staff have “netted the committee absolutely nothing” and therefore he was forced to issue the subpoena.
The request by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is said to be less extensive than earlier document requests.
Issa, a Republican, represents the 49th District, which includes coastal San Diego from Del Mar north, plus Vista and San Marcos, as well as large parts of south Orange County.
