San Diego City Council candidate Carol Kim said Monday a new poll shows her in a “statistical dead heat” with Republican challenger Chris Cate.

Kim said in a campaign message that the poll shows her at 39 percent to Cate’s 41 percent, which is within the margin of error. The undecided vote stood at 20 percent.

The poll by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner surveyed 400 people who are likely to vote in November.

“I can’t tell you the excitement this poll has caused within my campaign,” said Kim. “We can win this race and have the data to prove it!”

Cate received 47 percent of the vote in the June primary.

District 6 includes Clairemont Mesa, Kearny Mesa, Miramar, Mira Mesa and parts of Rancho Penasquitos.
