In the largest airstrike of its kind to date, the military coalition led by the United States destroyed a fleet of 168 ISIS oil tanker trucks near Palmya, Syria, the Defense Department reported Friday.

The airstrikes came just days after the San Diego-based Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group entered the Mideast area of operations.

However, the Defense Department did not say whether Marine jets from the USS Makin Island were involved in the tanker strike.

The coalition is systematically targeting ISIS-affiliated oil infrastructure to eliminate millions of dollars in potential revenue to the terrorist group.
