Weekend rail service will be canceled from Solana Beach to the Santa Fe Depot to permit further repairs to a section of track in Del Mar that was partially washed out in November.

The North County Transit District said that during the shutdown Amtrak and COASTER passengers would board special buses between Solana Beach and downtown San Diego to complete their trips.

The repairs are being made just south of 15th Street in Del Mar. Steel reinforced concrete retaining structures that are 8-10 feet deep will be constructed between the existing concrete piles in the bluff area.

The NCTD said nearby residents and businesses can expect significant noise from trucks and heavy construction equipment throughout the weekend.

The washout occurred after heavy rains on Thanksgiving. Rail service was suspended for a day to complete initial repairs.
