More than 103 million Americans—the most on record—are expected to travel for the year-end holidays, and San Diego will be a top destination, according to American Automobile Association.

The AAA predicts San Diego will be the fourth most popular destination for holiday travelers this year, after Las Vegas, Orlando and New York City.

The increase in holiday travel nationwide is being driven by an improving labor market, rising wages and low gas prices, according to the AAA. Most holiday travelers will drive during the 11 day period beginning Dec. 23, but air travel will also increase.

“‘Tis the season for holiday travel, and this year more Americans will travel to celebrate the holidays and ring in the New Year than ever before,” said AAA President and CEO Marshall Doney. “Rising incomes and continued low gas prices should make for a joyous holiday travel season.”

But the AAA also said it expects to rescue more than 980,000 motorists from breakdowns during the season.
