The two most popular names for cats in the San Diego region are Kitty and Tiger, based on records collected by the County of San Diego Department of Animal Services over the past 21 years.
Department employees have kept track of the names of cats that were adopted, claimed or given microchips since 1995, in order to come up with the list of most popular feline monikers, according to Dan DeSousa of Animal Services.
Smokey ranked third, followed by Baby, Princess, Tigger, Shadow, Lucy, Max and Missy.
The top dog names was released last week, with Bella taking the top spot. Following were Max, Buddy, Lucy, Daisy, Charlie, Molly, Bailey, Roxy and Lola.
Animal Services’ three shelters are overwhelmed with dogs and cats, so the usual adoption fees — $69 for canines and $58 for felines — are being waived through the end of this month.
