Nearly 3,000 people in Ramona, Escondido, Santee and Vista lost power early Saturday afternoon amid the heat wave, San Diego Gas & Electric reported.

Without electricity, those San Diego residents will go without air conditioning and fans in the middle of an intense heat wave.

The power outages affected more than 300 residents in Ramona. San Diego Gas & Electric said the loss occurred just before noon and affected The Country Estates community. The cause was not released. SDG&E expected all power to be restored in Ramona by 5 p.m.

Another 296 customers are without power in Escondido. The company expects power to come back to Escondido by 6:30 p.m.

In Vista, 1,685 people have been without power since 3:15 p.m. in an area near Gopher Canyon. SDG&E expects to have power restored by 6 p.m.

And as of 1:34 p.m. approximately 600 people are without power in Santee.

A few recomendations from the Energy Education Council on remaining safe and cool include using natural ventilation or purchasing battery-powered fans, closing all drapes and blinds to reduce sunlight exposure, and drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated.
