A Chula Vista man won $500 a week for 25 years on a $1 California Lucky Life scratcher ticket, the state lottery announced Monday.

California Lottery officials said Richard Elsa was having a rough day before purchasing some tickets at a 7-Eleven convenience store at 7 Naples St. in Chula Vista.

He said he was discouraged because he didn’t have enough money to buy his father’s house.

“Now I can buy the house,” Elsa said. “I’ve never had anything like this happen to me.”

He said he also plans to set aside money for his children.

In the California Lucky Life game, players can purchase tickets ranging in cost from $1 to $10, and try to match their numbers to a winning number.

If they get a match, they scratch off a money bag symbol to see what they prize will be. If the word “life” appears, they win $500 weekly for a total of $650,000.
