San Diego Mesa College will host its Taste of Mesa fundraiser on Thursday to benefit the school’s Culinary Arts Management Program.

The fundraiser includes a cooking-show-style competition between alumni, students and an advanced baking team, a silent auction and a selection of tapas made by students and local chefs. Auction items include dinners for two at Barleymash, Wrench & Rodent and FourPenny House. The chefs at the three restaurants will create special menus for each pair of winners, according to the college.

“Serious foodies will not want to miss this event,” said San Diego Mesa College President Dr. Pamela Luster. “These students are the future of San Diego’s popular food scene — in fact – if you have been to any restaurant in San Diego, chances are good that a portion your meal may have been prepared by a Mesa College Culinary Arts student.”

Mesa College held the inaugural Taste of Mesa event last year to celebrate the opening of its newest building at the time, the Mesa Commons. Proceeds from both fundraisers help the culinary arts program buy ingredients and supplies to prepare students for farm-to-table restaurant service, according to the school.

Tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased on the school’s website and at the door of the event. VIP ticket holders receive early access to the auction, an invitation to a private reception and the ability to taste and judge the food competitions.
