UC San Diego ranked 19th in a list of top global universities released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.

The campus is one of only five U.S. public universities to make the top 20 in the list of the world’s top 750 colleges.

The rankings measure factors such as research, global and regional reputation, international collaboration as well as number of highly-cited papers and doctorates awarded.

“We are very proud that UC San Diego’s premier academic programs continue to gain recognition worldwide,” said Chancellor Pradeep Khosla. “This new ranking recognizes the strengths our rich academic portfolio and the talent of our faculty members.”

UCSD ranked in the top 10 for programs in pharmacology and toxicology, neuroscience and behavior, biology and biochemistry, psychiatry and psychology, computer science, and molecular biology and genetics.

The top five global universities, according to the magazine, are Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, UC Berkeley, Stanford, and the University of Oxford in England.

San Diego State University was tied for No. 480 in the world, thanks to a strong regional research reputation and well-regarded Social Science and Public Health programs.
