The California Highway Patrol announced it will set up a DUI checkpoint somewhere in Valley Center on Friday night.
Depending on traffic, all vehicles entering the checkpoint will be checked for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the CHP said.
The agency did not say where the checkpoint would be in Valley Center or during what times it would be in operation.
“Our objective is to send a clear message to individuals who consider driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs — you will be caught, and your vehicle will be towed away,” said Capt. Brad Palmer.
Palmer said a sobriety checkpoint is a “proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations.”
Funding for the checkpoint was provided from a grant by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
