A 16-year-old boy riding an electric bicycle suffered a fractured femur when he was struck by a sedan in University City Wednesday.

Officers responded to the site of the collision on Genesee Avenue at around 4:55 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department. A 39-year-old man driving a 2016 Mazda 3 turned left in front of the bicycle to drive on to the westbound on-ramp for the Soledad (52) Freeway, police said.

The 16-year-old boy was taken to a hospital for treatment, while a 16-year-old girl who was on the bicycle with him was evaluated for multiple abrasions, police said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, police said.

The SDPD Traffic Division is conducting the investigation. Anyone with additional information regarding the collision was urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
