A group of people were found near an overturned boat with perhaps two others trapped inside, authorities said Saturday.

Fire personnel responded around 7:40 a.m. Saturday to reports of a suspected smuggling vessel that had capsized offshore near Abbott Street and Saratoga Avenue in Ocean Beach, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

A department lifeguard said one person was found unconscious and some were taken to hospitals. The exact number of victims was unclear.

Some victims were able to reach the shore and walk away, a fire official said. Crews planned to monitor the area for a day or longer for any additional victims.
