An investigation is underway after a man’s body was found Sunday afternoon in an alley in the Serra Mesa neighborhood.

The discovery was reported at 2:40 p.m. in the west alley of the 2800 block of Greyling Drive, according to San Diego police Lt. Steve Shebloski.

“Due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the death of the male and in an abundance of caution, San Diego police homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate,” Shebloski said.

Little was known about what led to the death, he said. “However, it does appear the male died at a different location and his body was left in the alley by an unknown person or persons.”

The man’s name was not released but he was believed to have been in his 30s or 40s, Shebloski said.

Detectives examined physical evidence at the scene of the discovery, searched for witnesses and canvassed the area for surveillance footage, he said.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
