A fight between two men near City Heights Park escalated Thursday into a stabbing that left one of them critically wounded.

The encounter began at about 9 a.m. when Perronnette Fedner, 34, approached a 41-year-old man who was sitting in a van in a parking lot in the 3800 block of Fairmount Avenue in Teralta West, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The contact rapidly turned into a scuffle during which Fedner allegedly stabbed the other man multiple times, Officer David O’Brien said. Fedner then fled, and the victim gave chase, despite the severity of his injuries.

A short time later, several witnesses grabbed the suspected assailant and held him for police.

Paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening trauma, including stab wounds to his chest, abdomen, left bicep and right hand, O’Brien said.

It was unclear what sparked the fight.
