Eight residents of a Bay Park house, as well as a dog and a cat, escaped a fire Friday before firefighters arrived.
The fire was reported at 7:04 a.m. Friday in a basement-level floor of the house at 2136 Galveston St., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Firefighters made a quick response and made a quick knockdown of the fire, said Battalion Chief Craig Newell told OnScene TV.
An arson team would be at the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze, the battalion chief said.
“The residents were out when we arrived,” Newell said. There were eight residents, a cat and a dog. They all got out safely.
There was smoke damage throughout the house, which will be unfit for occupation for several weeks, he said.
The fire department requested the American Red Cross to assist the eight adults who have been displaced.
