Police detained the son of a woman found dead outside an Egger Highlands home Saturday after he barricaded himself following the discovery of her body.

Officials with the San Diego Police Department did not release the name of the woman, 68, only describing her as Asian and a resident of the home where she was found, in the 1600 block of Bubbling Well Drive. They also did not release the name of her son, 37, who lives at the residence as well.

San Diego police received reports of an unresponsive female who had been found in a vehicle at the home just after 10:15 a.m.

When officers from Southern Division arrived, they confirmed the female was “obviously deceased” in the rear seat of the car, which was parked on the street. It also was registered to the Bubbling Well address.

Officers attempted to speak to a male inside the home, but he retreated inside and refused to come out, despite officers’ attempts to negotiate with him.

Police eventually entered the residence and were able to detain the male without further incident.

Due to the suspicious nature of the death, homicide detectives were called to the scene and are currently investigating the incident, including interviewing the woman’s son.

There were no obvious signs of trauma to her body, police said, so her cause of death will be determined by the San Diego County Medical Examiner.

OnScene.TV reported that the woman was the aunt of a San Diego officer who had responded to the home.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
