Authorities arrested a Mount Hope resident Thursday on suspicion of carrying out a deadly drive-by shooting a few blocks from his home last summer.

They took Anthony Goodrich Austin Jr., into custody Thursday morning at his residence in the 800 block of Raven Street in connection with the slaying of Arthur Williams, 51, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 30, Austin, 43, allegedly pulled up next to Williams in a sport utility vehicle and opened fire. The victim was sitting in his vehicle next to Dennis Allen Memorial Park on Gateway Center Way, Lt. Andra Brown said.

Following the shooting, the assailant drove off and fled to the south.

Paramedics took Williams to a hospital, where he survived for nearly a month. He died from his wounds on Sept. 27.

Police did not disclose a suspected motive for the shooting or reveal what led detectives to identify Austin as the alleged killer.

Austin, booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday afternoon.
