A University City man was found dead under suspicious circumstances Monday following a quarrel with a housemate, who was taken into custody for questioning.

Patrol officers and paramedics responding to a medical emergency in the 5300 block of Bothe Avenue found the 56-year old victim dead in his home about 6:15 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The man, whose name was withheld pending family notification, had suffered “obvious” upper body trauma, said police Lt. Anthony Dupree.

A 34-year-old man was taken into custody for questioning. The potential suspect also lives at the home near Marian Bear Memorial Park, as does his 57-year-old mother.

Investigators determined that the possible homicide occurred following “some sort of altercation” between the two men, according to Dupree.

The circumstances of the death remained unclear Monday afternoon.

“We are still trying to determine the relationship of all (the involved) parties,” Dupree said.
