Authorities Monday publicly identified a 37-year-old Paradise Hills man who was fatally shot outside his home over the Fourth of July weekend.

Patrol officers responding to a report of gunfire in the 2400 block of Calle Gaviota found Dustin Bridwell of San Diego mortally wounded shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday, according to police.

Medics took Bridwell to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A witness described seeing an unidentified man in dark-colored clothing running from the scene of the shooting, said police Lt. Anthony Dupree.

“Although it is very early in the investigation, we have learned the victim went outside and (that) shortly thereafter family members heard gunshots,” Dupree said. “(They) went outside and discovered the victim down.”

Police have disclosed no suspected motive for the killing.
