A woman who walked onto railroad tracks and into the path of a Coaster Train in Old Town was hospitalized Wednesday evening in critical condition.

Deputies responded to a crash on the railroad tracks near Washington Street and Pacific Highway about 6:30 p.m. and located the victim, according to Deputy T. Eikermann of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department‘s Transit Enforcement Unit, which provides law enforcement services for the transit line.

A preliminary investigation determined a northbound Coaster train was traveling approximately 35 mph when a woman walked into the middle of the railroad tracks and was struck by the train. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Eikermann said.

There were no reports of injuries to passengers on the train.

Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to call the sheriff’s department at 858-565-5200.
