A house fire in Paradise Hills left one person dead and another near death, police said.

The fire was first reported at 10:17 p.m. in the 2900 block of Calle Cumbre, according to San Diego police Officer John Buttle. The house was in a subdivision just north of the Route 54 Freeway at Reo Drive.

Two victims — both men — were pulled out of the home and taken to a hospital, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesperson Monica Munoz said.

One of the victims died of his injuries sometime later, Munoz said.

Neither of the victims’ identities were immediately available.

Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze within about 45 minutes, Munoz said, and investigators determined the fire was accidental.
