The San Diego Police Department announced a DUI and license checkpoint for Thursday night in an undisclosed location somewhere in the city limits.

The checkpoint will be in operation from 11 p.m. Thursday until 3 a.m. Friday, with officers stopping and checking drivers for alcohol and marijuana impairment.

The location will be chosen based on previous arrests and accidents.

Police regularly announce the checkpoints in advance because this has a deterrent effect on people who might drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Those caught driving impaired can expect the impact of an arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, classes, license suspensions and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
