DUI 16:9

The San Diego Police Department announced it will operate a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location on Friday night.

The checkpoint is planned for 11 a.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Saturday. Officers will stop and check drivers for alcohol, drugs, and driver’s license violations.

The department regularly announces the checkpoints in advance because this deters people from driving under the influence. Locations are chosen based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests.

Nationally over 10,000 people are killed annually by an impaired driver, and law enforcement agencies report that drugs are involved in an increasing number of accidents.

Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
