Authorities sought Tuesday a man who stabbed a cab driver after being driven from San Diego to La Mesa.

The man was picked up at a San Diego residence around 11:45 p.m. Monday. He refused to give the driver a destination, instead telling him to just drive, La Mesa Police Lt. Vince Brown said.

The cabbie soon became uncomfortable with his fare and pulled into a gas station at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Waite Drive. The driver got out of the car and began to walk away, but the suspect chased him down, stabbed him in the upper body with an unknown object and fled, Brown said.

Paramedics took the driver to Sharp Memorial Hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening wound, according to the lieutenant.

Police described the suspect as black, 27 to 30 years old, about 5-foot- 2 and 200 pounds. He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt and jeans.
