Thirty Los Angeles County firefighters and one helicopter were sent early Saturday to Ventura County to help battle a 900-acre brush fire at Solimar Beach.

The fire has spread rapidly as Santa Ana winds in excess of 40 mph have blown embers and helped them establish themselves.

At least 30 homes were threatened, according to reports from the Ventura County Fire Department. Evacuations were ordered in Solimar Beach and area campgrounds.

The Ventura (101) Freeway was closed northbound at Highway 33 and southbound at Bates Road. The Union Pacific railroad tracks are also closed.
