A man fatally injured in a crash while trying to evade law enforcement officer in Bankers Hill last week was identified as a 27-year- old Arcadia resident, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office reported Tuesday.
Thomas Kirk Zion died at UC San Diego Medical Center at 11:05 p.m. Friday, roughly 20 minutes after slamming his SUV into a retaining wall at First Avenue and Juniper Street.
Police and California Highway Patrol officers began following Zion’s SUV following multiple minor hit-and-run crashes in the downtown area earlier that night, authorities said.
Zion headed the wrong way on Cedar Street, and later lost control of the vehicle on a left turn from First Avenue onto Juniper Street. The SUV struck a retaining wall at the northwest corner of the intersection.
