A man suspected of using a blowtorch to cut open an ATM in Oceanside Tuesday was arrested hours later in Ontario with a bunch of cash, a police lieutenant said.

Johnny Campbell was arrested in the theft of about $48,000 from the Bank of America at 3807 Plaza Drive, according to Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Cosby.

An accomplice remained at large.

“It is believed that this incident may be related to other ATM heists in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties,” Cosby said.

Oceanside police responded to a 3:55 a.m. alarm that was sounding at the bank and learned from bank security guards that two masked suspects with a crowbar fled the scene, Cosby stated.

Surveillance cameras at the bank and nearby businesses had been spray- painted, he said, and about $48,000 was missing.

A police officer in the San Bernardino County city of Ontario later arrested Campbell, who had a large but unspecified amount of cash and materials from the Oceanside bank branch, Cosby said. Campbell was turned over to FBI agents.
