A scuba diver who was found struggling underwater died at a hospital Wednesday after lifeguards rescued him from Mission Bay.
The call of a diver in distress was sent to lifeguards at 7:05 p.m., San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros said.
NBC 7 reported the skipper of a nearby boat noticed the diver struggling just below the surface near Mission Point and issued a distress call. The victim was reportedly underwater for four to six minutes.
San Diego Fire-Rescue said lifeguards entered the water, stripped the victim’s weight belt and brought him back up where attempts to bring him into a boat were hindered by the victim’s weight and equipment.
The lifeguards performed CPR while the victim was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:05 p.m.,.
