Authorities have released a composite sketch in hopes of identifying the woman who shot two victims during a failed attempt to steal their purses in Little Italy last week.
The suspect confronted the three women on a sidewalk in the 700 block of West Date Street near Kettner Boulevard shortly after 9:30 p.m. July 24, drew a handgun and demanded their purses, according to San Diego police and Crime Stoppers.
However, she opened fire before they could respond, striking a woman, 24, in the arm and another woman, 33, in the abdomen, police said. A third victim was uninjured.
The suspect then fled empty-handed in a light-colored minivan with a male driver and headed east on West Date Street.
The two wounded women were taken to a hospital, and they are recovering.
The suspect is described as a thin Hispanic woman with light skin who is between 5 feet 4 and 5 feet 6 inches tall and has highlighted light brown hair, which she wore pulled back tightly in a ponytail or bun. She was wearing a brown puffy jacket with a fur-lined hood, dark pants and black shoes.
Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity or whereabouts was asked to call police at (619) 744-9502, or San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Crime Stoppers also can be reached or via email or text.
