Two women were shot by an unknown assailant near one of San Diego’s top tourist destinations – the cruise ship terminal, San Diego police said.
The shooting was reported at 9:39 p.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of Kettner Boulevard in Little Italy, according to police Officer David Stafford.
A woman walked up to three other women displaying a handgun and attempting a robbery, Stafford said.
The suspect demanded one of the victim’s purses, then fired one round at them, which hit both of them. One victim was struck in the arm and the other victim was struck in the abdomen, he said. The victims are 24 and 33 years old.
“The suspect fled without obtaining any property,” Stafford said.
Police said the woman left the scene in a late ’90s “Astro Van-type vehicle” that was driven by a man with a shaved head.
The female suspect was described as Hispanic, in her late 20s, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, 135 lbs., with dark hair, wearing a “dark furry” jacket.
Firefighters took the victims to a trauma center for treatment, Stafford said. Their condition was unclear.
