Summer is one of the most exciting times to experience East Village. Whether you’re visiting for Comic-Con, planning an event, or looking for your next night out, the neighborhood has something for every occasion.
Comic-Con Comes to East Village
Each year, Comic-Con brings thousands of visitors to San Diego, and East Village becomes an extension of the experience. Just steps from the San Diego Convention Center, neighborhood restaurants, bars and venues are gearing up with themed offerings and special events.
Relic Bakery will join the Comic-Con celebrations with a Pokémon-themed pop-up event in partnership with Tailored Hair and Sneaky Fox Records on Friday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests can enjoy the themed experience along with at least two Pokémon-inspired pastries available throughout the weekend.
East Village Tavern + Bowl will host COSPLAY Music Video Bingo on Saturday, July 25, at 7 p.m. For $5 per card pack, attendees can put their pop culture knowledge to the test. Those who arrive in costume will receive a featured welcome drink and a second set of bingo cards.
Cafe de l’Opera is also bringing a special Comic-Con creation from the Pokémon universe: POKÉ PUFFS. Inspired by the treats fed to Pokémon in the video games, the French bakery will put its own spin on the item using choux pastry, a light and airy French dough used to create classics like éclairs and cream puffs. The POKÉ PUFFS will be available in Sweet, Mint, Citrus, Mocha and Spice, with tiers including Frosted, Deluxe and Wish options.
Plus, The Blind Burro is embracing an intergalactic theme with its ‘Out of This World Margarita’ paired with a galaxy-themed shot. On Saturday night, guests can keep the festivities going at an outer-space-themed dance party featuring a live DJ.
Host your Next Event in East Village
Beyond the excitement of Comic-Con, East Village continues to serve as one of San Diego’s premier destinations for meetings, celebrations, and community events. The neighborhood’s mix of venues makes it easy to find the perfect setting for everything from networking mixers and corporate gatherings to nonprofit fundraisers and private celebrations.
For social-forward gatherings, Villains Brewing Company brings a bold, energetic atmosphere that works well for happy hours, team celebrations, and casual networking events. For more professional or hybrid-style programming, UC San Diego Park & Market provides highly flexible meeting and event environments in the heart of downtown.
For visitors and planners seeking a stay-and-meet experience, both Hotel Indigo and Sentral Hotel combine modern accommodations with event spaces, creating convenient options for conferences, receptions and multi-day gatherings.
Venue 808 and Quartyard anchor East Village’s event scene with versatile, open-air, industrial spaces ideal for customizable festivals, activations, fundraisers, and community events. So next time you are planning an event in East Village, you’ll find a diverse collection of venues ready to bring your vision to life.
