San Diego Gas & Electric announced that increasing power generation from clean energy sources will enable it to offer customers “super off-peak” weekday rates year-round.
The new rates, which were previously available only in March and April, will now be available year-round on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning May 1.
The utility said that with more energy from solar, wind and battery storage available during daytime hours, electricity costs are lower, creating new opportunities for customers to shift energy use.
“This change gives customers more control,” said SDG&E Chief Customer Officer Dana Golan. “Expanding super off‑peak hours year-round gives people more options to save in ways that work for their households.”
Overnight super off‑peak hours remain available on weekdays from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m., and on weekends and holidays from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Super off‑peak prices are the the lowest electricity prices of the day. They are designed to encourage customers to shift energy use when possible.
SDG&E said the the new rates are available in residential and commercial time‑of‑use pricing plans. Customers who are not currently on a pricing plan with super off‑peak hours can explore their options by visiting the utility’s My Energy Center website.
