Kick off fall on Sept. 2, when Karl Strauss Brewing Co. taps its seasonal Oktoberfest beer for the 37th consecutive year, reviving a beloved tradition.

First brewed in 1989, the Oktoberfest release has become a fall staple for Karl Strauss fans. Brewed in the Märzen style, the beer is known for its smooth, toasty malt character balanced with a crisp finish. It’s designed to echo the flavors of classic German lagers while carrying the California craft spin that put Karl Strauss on the map, a new release said.

San Diego’s first post-Prohibition brewery, Karl Strauss, helped launch the city’s craft beer scene. Today, Oktoberfest remains a reminder of its roots, drawing regulars who have made the release part of their annual ritual.

This year’s Oktoberfest will be available on draft at all four San Diego brewpubs and in six-packs at select retailers throughout California. The release also kicks off a season of celebrations at the brewpubs, with food pairings and special events planned through the fall.

For many locals, the arrival of Karl Strauss Oktoberfest is as much a marker of the season as changing leaves — only with a pint in hand.
