San Diego’s Qualcomm announced that Samsung has picked the latest Snapdragon chipset to power the South Korean smartphone maker’s flagship devices.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be used for the Galaxy Z Flip5, Galaxy Z Fold5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series.
The eight-core processor and associated chips boast 16 billion transistors, and Qualcomm said the chipset supports artificial intelligence, desktop-level gaming and professional grade photography.

They continue to set the pace for innovation and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy power the newest flagship Galaxy device lineup,” said Alex Katouzian, a senior vice president of Qualcomm Technologies.
Inkang Song, vice president and head of the technology strategy team at Samsung, said his company believes “the future of our products lies in delivering new and exciting experiences in a range of form-factors, all powered by the latest and greatest technology.”
Samsung has been the launch customer for many of Qualcomm’s latest semiconductor products.
Qualcomm stock closed up nearly 2 points on Thursday to $125.85 per share.
