Project categories include:
• Urban planning
• Landscape architecture

• Historic preservation
• Miscellaneous – for such things as public art, lighting programs, wayfinding systems

People’s Choice Award nominations: Between Aug. 1 to 31, the public is invited to vote
online for their Orchid & Onion awardees. The list of eligible projects for the People’s Choice
awards is developed during the nominations period in June. This is when the public is invited to comment at the website and share on social media their ideas about projects. Projects garnering the most interest during this period become eligible to be nominated for the People’s Choice Awards.
Annual awards ceremony: The San Diego Architectural Foundation will be celebrating its 43rd
Orchids & Onions Awards Ceremony at the historic US Grant Hotel on Oct. 3, a previous Orchid winner. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the importance of architecture in our daily lives and raise public awareness and appreciation for the industry professionals that inspire with their hard work to improve the quality of San Diego’s built environment.
