This year’s festival, which began June 1 and continues through June 24, marks the third year of a six-year exploration of the composer’s life.
The historic focus this year is titled “From Rebel to Entrepreneur.” Mozart, in his early 20s, is no longer the “golden child” and must dedicate himself to the business of music for financial security.
Michael Francis, music director of the festival, will conduct the first orchestra concert on Saturday night with acclaimed pianist Anne-Marie McDermott. The program includes Jean-Féry Rebel’s Les Éléments, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 13 and his overture from Abduction from The Seraglio, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2.
The festival includes orchestral and chamber music concerts, lectures, parties and presentations throughout San Diego and Tijuana. A complete calendar is available online.
