More than 10,000 participants and 2,000 spectators will gather in Carlsbad this weekend for the annual Carlsbad Marathon.
The Sunday event, which features a marathon and half marathon across the scenic beach town, benefits charities such as the American Association of Zoo Keepers, Connected in Motion and Fresh Start.
But if running 26 or 13 miles doesn’t appeal to you, organizers will also have a 1-mile race at Legoland. The event is open to all children and ends with family-friendly entertainment. All participants are invited to enjoy the park after the race.
Here are some other events happening this weekend:
Del Mar Gem Faire
The Gem Faire is coming to the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend. The event, which will take place Friday through Sunday, features hundreds of gems, crystals and beads. The sparkling event runs from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 and children under 11 are free.
Hops on the Harbor
Enjoy a night on the San Diego Bay while sipping on Finest Made Ales. Hops on the Harbor, hosted by Flagship Cruises and Events, is a dinner cruise featuring a locally craft brewery. The 2.5 hour cruise includes multiple food stations, a full bar and plenty of dancing. Tickets are $64.50 for adults and $40.70 for children between the ages of 4 and 12.
“Rent” at Civic Theatre
On its 20 anniversary tour, “Rent” returns to the stage at San Diego Civic Theatre. The Tony Award-winning musical by Jonathan Larson tells the story of New York City artists as they confront issues such as love, loss and AIDS. The show runs through Sunday with tickets starting at $22.50.
Beer and Yoga
Indulge in a Vinyasa flow and a pint of beer this Sunday. Second Chance Brewing Co. is hosting a yoga class from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The event is $20 per person and includes two tasters or a non-alcoholic beverage. But, of course, you’ll want the alcoholic beverage. Participants are asked to bring their own mats and props.
San Diego Restaurant Week
Enjoy the best of San Diego County’s food scene with Restaurant Week. The biannual event kicks off on Sunday and features restaurants throughout the region. Each restaurant will offer either a two-course lunch special or a three-course dinner for $20 to $50. A number of participating restaurants will also offer a Girl Scout-themed dessert to celebrate the organization’s 100th anniversary of Girl Scout Cookies.
