UC San Diego men’s water polo redshirt seniors Jack Turner and Kacper Langiewicz have helped propel the men’s national team into the World University Games semi-finals.
Team USA rallied to defeat Croatia in Wednesday’s quarterfinal, 12-11, setting up a showdown against Hungary at 5 a.m. Saturday.
After trailing 11-9 early in the fourth period, Team USA scored three goals to improve to 5-0 in the games, being held in Italy.
Langiewicz scored a goal, his eighth in five contests. The San Marcos native had three goals in a win against South Korea on July 3. Turner tallied nine saves.
Langiewicz also scored twice in a 10-8 victory over France on July 6.
UC San Diego head coach Denny Harper believes the national coaching staff is “definitely taking notice” of his players’ contributions.
“Historically, it’s all about the UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans, Stanford Cardinal and that sort of thing. This is great and people are noticing,” Harper said.
